Flagstaff, AZ Adventure Session - Anniversary Session - Arizona Elopement Photographer
Meet Elizabeth and Leon! These two recently celebrated their one year anniversary of marriage by doing an adventure anniversary session in Flagstaff, Arizona with me! They have a love story that would make your heart melt. They met each other at a time in their lives where their love was exactly what each other was looking for and needed and met in the most of fate way possible! They definitely have anniversary to remember, we hiked a few miles through the aspen trees to reach beautiful views of the the San Fransisco peaks, they cuddled up and danced around in the dropping temperatures during our photo shoot. Then we hiked back through the aspens in the dark and ended our session with star photo, lots of my couple’s favorite moments on a shoot. Of course, we fit in an anniversary dinner on your drive back into Phoenix, stopping at an amazing authentic Mexican restaurant in Flagstaff.
Flagstaff, Arizona has so much to offer to any couples for an adventure session. Whether you’re engaged, eloping, having an intimate wedding, celebrating an anniversary or just wanting to set out on a hike Flagstaff is a goldmine. It is one of the few places you can be in Arizona and trade out the desert look for aspens, mountains, fall colors or snowy mountain caps! If you’re in Arizona and thanking of eloping this holiday season it is a perfect place for a magical winter elopement and I would love to help tell your love story!
Jennifer & Ben’s Flagstaff Engagement Session - Adventure Elopement Photographer - Arizona Based Photographer
An Adventure Fall Engagement Session <3
Jen & Ben met me in Flagstaff for a beautiful fall engagement session! We had the most gorgeous sunset to end our adventurous session. I knew I had met my match couple when Jen said she thought about bringing her cat to the session so they could have a photo with their fur babies! I was also so stoked to find that my partner and I are not the only couple where the lady gives the piggy back rides! This sweet couple, who do a lot of great work in the community of Phoenix, is due to get married in Phoenix next year in February. They had a dreamy scavenger hunt proposal leading them to a special place in Sedona where Ben surprised Jen by asking her to be his wife after many years of being together. I can not wait to see these two tie the knot at their intimate wedding next year!
Guide to Engagement Session Locations - Engaged, now what?? - Adventure Photographer based in Arizona
Engagement photo locations in Arizona
Arizona has endless possibilities for places that you could choose to take your engagement photos. If you want to know even more places than what I have listed here then please reach out and let’s chat!
The Salt River near Mesa, Arizona is a fantastic place to take your engagement photos! With options near the water, cactus, on top of rocks, by the lake and the chance to run into wild horses!
Desert Botanical Gardens
The gardens is beautiful, if you want your session full of lush cactus with out the hike this spot is perfect. When I photographed a friend of mine’s couple session there we went with a wild west love story theme and this location is the perfect vibe for anything western or modern!
The downtown area offers lots of different colors and will for sure give you all of the urban feels. We can shoot in a coffee shop, on the side walk, or on top of a building! You can get funky with this option.
Rim country is absolutely beautiful! In this area we can shoot right on the rim and get stunning mountain views, or take a loop around the lakes, shoot in open fields with wild flowers or even around the camping areas. Close to the rim is Payson, Strawberry and the Tonto Natural Bridge. The Bridge is a great spot for that edgier couple.
There are soooo many perfect spots in Sedona for a desert engagement session. You can hike a distance to some great areas or not hike far at all. Red Rock country is full of options and views. Sedona is one of those places you just have to see to believe and be able to grasp the beauty, but there is something there for everyone. On the way up to Sedona or on the way back it may be worth your time to stop at Sunset Point for a few images.
Northern Arizona/Horse Shoe Bend
Heading up North in Arizona is almost like entering another world and there are truly an insane amount of locations to consider. Horse shoe bend is a place a lot of people are familiar with and makes a stunning background for an engagement session. Horse shoe bend is near a lot of other great places like Lake Powell, the slot canyons and many other spots you could have to yourself with a 4x4. It is important to remember that a lot of the land in Arizona is on Indian Reservation land and if you plan to have your engagement session at one of these locations you need to acquire the correct permits. Your photographer should be able to help you through this process. Did you know you could also do your engagement photos in the Grand Canyon?? Well, you can! There are also permits for that which can get pricey, but those views are worth it!
If you are craving the fall leaves that will soon be upon us check into having your engagement session in Flagstaff! You can do a short one mile hike on the Aspen Corner to Alfa Fia Tank trail to beautiful views in a valley opening. You can also choose to stay under the aspens and shoot within the trees, take a trail to the top of a peak for killer views for example by braving Humpfrey’s Peak.
In Your Own Home!
Yes, you read that right! Take your engagement photos in your home for a super cozy or sexy feel. If you love your home it could be a good way to show off your style in your images. If you don’t feel the design of your home is the look you want, but love the idea of an indoor session check out local Airbnb’s! There are some extremely well done airbnbs throughout the valley and I highly suggest looking into it!
I am a huge fan of Watson Lake, to me it is Joshua Tree meets water and in my state! An engagement session at Watson Lake is also a great place for variety. You have the boulders and the water, but also open fields and long drives that make for romantic pictures. Or hop in a canoe with your lover for some fun photos! Watson Lake is right near Prescott which also has a lot of offer from it’s sweet old downtown, to trails and views.
Location is not everything…
No matter what you choose or do at your engagement session have fun and enjoy it! This is an exciting time in your life to show and share your love. It is the start of your commitment to each other and savor the experience. Once you’re engaged and getting ready to start making all of these choices together finding a photographer that you vibe with and can easily communicate with will be a life savor! Once you book your engagement session with your photographer speak with them about what they suggest for location, hair, make & up and clothing! Do not be afraid to ask questions, share what you want and bring options!

Adventure Anniversary Session in Payson, Arizona - Arizona based Elopement Photographer
Let me introduce you to Erica and Tom…
This Michigan duo moved to Phoenix a few years ago after seeing how much it had to offer for the outdoor life. They were married ten years ago, but never received the photos they really wanted from their wedding day. They had a camping trip planned the same weekend that I had to be in Heber, Arizona so we decided it was time to get their anniversary session in the books. The Mogollon Rim is beautiful, but I tell you it has nothing on the love these two have for each other. When Tom saw Erica for the first time after helping her with the pearl buttons down her dress he said “Wow, there’s my wife!” I am telling you this man loves his wife and Erica completely adores Tom. Their equal need for each other, laughter and flirting like they are still a new couple is so inspiring and they have a beautiful love. Their anniversary session was definitely an adventure. We had a lot of rain, lightening, we did the shoot after camping and hiking over ten miles that weekend, we saw elk, spent some time around the lake and the rim. I hope it was an evening they will never forget, but I know for sure it is one of my favorite sessions to date.
Getting ready at the campsite was a first for me and them, but I think everyone involved would highly recommend it! We had dispersed camped the night before in this spot and spent the previous day hiking around the area to decided where we wanted to shoot. I love that they were able to get ready in the same spot that we awed at the stars the night before and joked around the fire and even cooked steak before setting out for our day. It definitely set the tone for the rest of this magical session!
They had a mission for their adventure anniversary session, see the elk as they do every time they come up to Rim Country. So of course, we had to get some photos with the elk. We spotted a herd and just went for it, I looked back to make sure Erica was okay in the dress and I had to snap a picture. She was running in heels, dress hiked up and the biggest smile on her face. It was such a special moment, the elk just went about his business and looked up at us occasionally and let us take photos nearby. They were so excited to see the elk and be so close to one I had to keep reminding them to stop staring at it so we could get some beautiful photos!
We ended the adventure anniversary session with an insanely beautiful sunset! It was extremely unexpected to say the least considering we were rained on for most of the session.

Anacortes Elopement - Washington Elopement Photographer - Arizona Adventure Elopement Photographer
“Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain.” - Vivian Greene
I met Jessica and Glen when I photographed their in home engagement session in Scottsdale, Arizona. We got to chatting about their wedding and upcoming adventures we both had planned. Luck was in the air that day and it turned out that we were both going to be in the Seattle area at the same time in the following weeks. This was super important to them because Jessica had lived in Washington for most of her adult life and really wanted wedding pictures in the Pacific Northwest with her future husband. Their intimate wedding will be later this year here in Scottsdale, but we took the opportunity to get Jessica the pictures she's always dreamed of having and creating beautiful memories during Glen’s first trip to Washington. I meet them at their Airbnb in Anacortes on a rainy cold day, but we still conquered the day hiking several trails and popping champagne! Jessica and Glen's love is so apparent when you spend time with them from the pure laughter to the sweet quiet moments they have, it was such a joy spending the day with them. It was my first time in the Northern Washington area (most of my time has been spent in the Olympic National Park region) and I must say it is beautiful! The Anacortes and Deception Pass State Park are perfect locations for a PNW elopement!
Isn't their little cabin on the lake the cutest?!
Please note this cabin is an Airbnb rental. It is important when you are eloping and you rent an Airbnb to speak with the owner if the photographer will be taking any photos on property. Most owners are okay with pictures being taken, but you need to communicate with them about what will be happening and get their permission.

I met Brittany through a local Midwife in Scottsdale, Pam, who owns Arizona Birth at Home. She is so bright and not to mention has impeccable style! During our session Brittany talked about how important family pictures are to her and how excited she was to do an in home session. I love photographing soon to be moms at home and in milk baths, they are so relaxed and at peace. It was a pleasure to photograph Brittany and her part of her story, I look forward to connecting with many more local mama to bes!
