Welp, they tied the knot!! Meet Mrs & Mr Jones!
Jen and Ben Jones contacted me early last year about their wedding and asked if I would be their photographer. I knew from the first few conversations with Jen that they were such a sweet couple and immediately connected with them. I first met them at their engagement session in Flagstaff where they told me they were definitely going to be awkward and camera shy, no way! They were naturals, so fun, carefree and in love! I feel in love with their love story. These two are high school sweethearts and Ben planned such an awesome scavenger hunt in Sedona for the proposal. After their engagement session we went for dinner in downtown Flagstaff and share stories of our cats, travels and hopes and goals.
Some time went by and we started meeting for wedding prep! I love meeting with my clients and helping them plan their wedding timeline and details about where and when photos will happen. This gives me time to get to know my couple better, help them out and help with planning a smooth stress free wedding day! The night before the wedding I arrived at their rehearsal to meet everyone and check out the set up of their ceremony. I arrived to find friends and family all smiling, helping out with final details and a very excited to be bride and groom. We made a final game plan for couple’s portraits and off they went to celebrate their last night as an engaged couple. Ben got ready at a groosm-men’s house in Scottsdale that could not have been more perfect for the guys. They got to get ready in a stellar space, but also got some down time to just hang out and play pool. Jen and the ladies got ready at friend’s house in Phoenix that was so bridal and perfect! It offered so much space for the ladies to get ready in, but also beautiful colors and accents for photos. I could not stop eyeing the wall with the cactus wall paper and immediately was like YES!!! dress shot!!
Before we knew it these two were getting married!! The wedding took place in the back yard of where Ben & Jen work here in Phoenix. They decorated and planned everything themselves, of course with a little help from friends! As you know, I often photograph elopements, but I love weddings that are backyard, low key and filled with meaning and joy from all the people there to help put it together. Jen and the ladies made the beautiful flower arrangements, Ben and Jen built their arch which they carved a very special bible verse to them on it and their initials and you should have seen the most epic cheese and fruit spread! There were so many special moments and memories in the ceremony. Jen had her aunt and father walk her down the isle, there were many teary eyes and bursts of laughter during the vows and a special moment for the bride and groom to take to them selves for prayer and communion.
After the ceremony and family photos we loaded up the bridal party to head to a local park for photos. One of the groomsmen, also the bartender/wine extraordinaire, had driven his old school VW bus and drove the bride and groom to and from in style! We absolutely had to take the opportunity for some kick-booty photos with it! It was nice to get away from the ceremony space for so fun photos with friends and photos of just the two of them, bride and groom. I think it is so important for the bride and groom to take some moments to their self at their wedding and to share the day together! Upon arriving back to the house the bridal party entered the reception, following Jen and Ben. Low and behold, Ben was going to make sure Jen was his forever and he proposed again as fun entrance to the reception! Many dances were had by the fire pit for a some what chilly night here in Phoenix. It was perfect set reception with string lights, a house to warm up and fire pit to cozy up to if needed. Champagne was poured for a few fun toasts by friends. For dinner Jen and Ben had Raising Cane’s delivered. I had never had this before and made a point to try it before the wedding. If you do not have this restaurant in your state, you are missing out!!! It is SO good!!! Dinner was followed by more dancing, celebration and love from family, friends and visitors.
Jen and Ben had a beautiful honeymoon in Belize!! I could not be more excited for them!!! I can not wait to see what their future holds. They are so sweet, caring and have done so much for the community in Phoenix. They put together such a beautiful backyard DIY wedding and I am so thankful I got to be apart of their journey….dang my couple’s weddings always get me emotional! <3
