Salt River Engagement Session

With Thanksgiving upon us I’m going to get a little mushy…

Without a shadow of a doubt I am beyond able to say I LOVE my job. I mean I feel like saying ‘job’ can’t even be right?! I get to spend my day with couples madly in love with each other. I get to photograph them in stunning places. It does not come without the hard work of communicating together to make the perfect plan for the couple’s session or elopement, detailed marketing, branding and the typically life of a business owner. This being said it doesn’t hold a candle to all of the other joys it brings me. I feel like in this day and age we are in now so many people have lost faith that true love exits, but I am here to tell you it does! I see it all the time in front of camera and it is so inspiring. Outside of engagements, anniversary and adventure couple’s sessions I feel extremely blessed that I get to witness the most intimate thing I believe a couple can experience, an elopement.

While I am on my mushy train… I just want to say how lucky I feel to live here in Arizona. Yesterday I was driving to Lost Dutchman for a session and was just in awe of the Arizona views; always stunning, especially at sunrise and sunset. A year ago to the date I came to Arizona with my partner to check it out as a possible place to live. It blows my mind to be able to say now we both live here and get to thrive in our work and life in the desert. It is the most magical place to live as an adventure elopement photographer and I am forever grateful.

Special shout out and more thankfulness to Jeff Watkins who invited me to The Gathering where these photos were taken of the lovely Jonnie + Garrett. I am telling you it has been a crazy busy last two months of location scouting for future elopement couples and continued education within the industry.

Tip to future Arizona intimate wedding brides and grooms: you MUST check out Saguaro Lake Ranch as a venue. It is adventure elopement worthy location, but perfect for the couple that wants their closest friends and family there for the celebration.

Brittany is a mother of one and pregnant with her second son who will be named Legend. <3

I met Brittany through a local Midwife in Scottsdale, Pam, who owns Arizona Birth at Home. She is so bright and not to mention has impeccable style! During our session Brittany talked about how important family pictures are to her and how excited she was to do an in home session. I love photographing soon to be moms at home and in milk baths, they are so relaxed and at peace. It was a pleasure to photograph Brittany and her part of her story, I look forward to connecting with many more local mama to bes!

I love getting pictures taken professionally to have high quality and up to date pictures of where my life is currently at. My kids are only going to go through each age once and I love to see how they change through the years.

20 days old, a whole lifetime ahead

Meet miss Evie, also known as, Evangeline Snow White! She is the sweetest little baby you will meet! So calm, cool and collected. You may remember her mom, Sam, who won my Mother's Day session give away a little while back. Her and Kody were so excited to finally have Evie's pictures taken after her stay in the hospital following her welcome into the world. Only being a home a few short days we got her session on the calendar! The session flew by, Evie had her blue eyes open the entire time going through a range of all the emotions. I think she enjoyed showing off her swaddles that her mother made during pregnancy! I could not help but use as many as I could in the photos and of course switching out the sweet bows too. My favorite of course was the cactus swaddle :)

Congratulations Sam and Kody! I can only imagine all of the memories to come in your beautiful growing household <3

Mother’s love is bliss, is peace, it need not be acquired, it need not be deserved. If it is there, it is like a blessing; if it is not there it is as if all the beauty had gone out of life.

When you’re in the thick of raising your kids by yourself, you tend to keep a running list of everything you think you’re doing wrong. I recommend taking a lot of family pictures as evidence to the contrary.

Downtown Phoenix Maternity Session

Phoenix, Arizona Photographer

The Urban Street Mom.

While I LOVE my in home maternity sessions I also really enjoy photographing them in downtown Phoenix and in natural areas on trails and in gardens. I got to photograph beautiful Jasmine, soon to be mom of three, in downtown on what I like to call the 'magic block.' This is a short route that I have curated locations for maternity sessions that is easy on the mom to be with beautiful back drops for any style. The variety and fun that this type of shoot offers is completely different from the in home sessions, but one that prompts for just as stunning images and memories during your pregnancy. Besides in home and on location maternity sessions, I am also really looking forward to photographing those daring mom-mas-to-be during destination maternity sessions in Sedona, Joshua Tree and many other locations that are near to us in the Phoenix area.

Newborn sessions, Traci's way!

Do you remember Sarah's stellar maternity session we shot in Phoenix a few weeks ago? Well, she and her husband have welcomed their first daughter, Lily, into the world! Once again, they invited me into their home, this time to do lifestyle newborn session. Sessions like these really warm my heart. I think an in home session is extra special because that's where your life happens, especially for newborn sessions. I think it is less stress on mom and dad to not have to take their newest bundle of joy out at seven days young. Every sweet thing you have for your little one is right there, so there is no chance of getting to the studio and realizing you forgot to grab that special blanket that your sister made. Plus, it is less stressful to be in the comfort of your home and able to take care of the needs of the baby while still getting images of your child at this precious time. It was such a treat that during this newborn session grandma and grandpa were in town, able to be apart of the shoot, and still spend time with the family during their visit to Arizona. We can not forget about miss Jojo! I am so excited that Jojo also got to get a picture with her little sister and I am pretty sure she was excited too! Well at no further adieu, let me introduce Miss Lily to you! Feel free to share images and the blog post!

My first photo shoot in Arizona as a new resident...

was a in home maternity session. Sarah graciously welcomed me into their home for this beautiful session. We photographed in their bedroom, the nursery and even got their sweet puppy, JoJo to pose for a few images. We ended the shoot in a relaxing milk bath. This was my first milk bath and what is there not to love?! Such a relaxing experience for the soon to be mom and stunning imagery. I love shoots where I get to bring out the creative side. I can not wait to meet the newest little member of their family soon!

Recently, I have fallen in love with in home sessions, especially for newborns and maternity. I'm really excited to be here in Arizona. I am looking forward to photographing a lot more maternity, family, senior sessions, along with weddings and golf now that I am settled in. Stay tuned each week to follow this new journey!

PGA Jr League Championship

I found myself, yet again, in the amazing state of Arizona

to photograph the PGA Jr League Championship for Montana Pritchard Photography. Of course I decided to stay a few extra days!

The wonders of the Grand Canyon cannot be adequately represented in symbols of speech, nor by speech itself. The resources of the graphic art are taxed beyond their powers in attempting to portray its features. Language and illustration combined must fail.

Mules in the Grand Canyon

... and yes, I found myself at the Grand Canyon again!

Exactly one year after I found myself at this breath-taking place I went there again, this time with my partner. Typically I only use my camera for photo shoots while traveling. This time I brought it along everywhere for some awesome shots of our adventures. Don't worry, I will share more from shoots in future blog posts. This was the most wild life I have seen on one trip! We saw cow elk, coyotes, very friendly fat squirrels, bighorn ewe and many mule dear. I finally got a chance to hike Bright Angel Trail! Sadly, I underestimated the beast. This trail is for sure on my bucket list to complete. Who knew there are cabins in the bottom of the canyon!?? Next trip, for sure!

After the Grand Canyon we drove North to Page, Arizona. I highly recommend this drive because you get the chance to see so many different scenic views. Not to mention at the end of the drive you are led to the amazing Horseshoe Bend. After spending the night in Page and seeing Lake Powell we drove back down to Sedona to spend the day in Slide Rock and drive around. The fall leaves in Sedona are spectacular to say the least.

Below are some of the images from our hikes, camping and photo stops along the way. Some images were taken with a Nikon D3 and some with my Iphone. Please feel free to share or ask questions!

I am extremely thankful to be able to spend my second thanksgiving exploring the great outdoors in the beautiful state of Arizona. I can not wait to explore more trails and spots in the future.

Pssst...you should click on the images to scroll through them larger :)

SHOUTOUTS!

Huge shout out to REI for providing us with free passes to Arizona State Parks in lieu of their #optoutside campaign. Also, for being our one stop shop for everything we need to hike and camp.

Our Hyundai Santa Fe car rented from National Car Rental for its great gas mileage. Let’s be honest, it makes a difference when you drive right at 2,000 miles in less than a week.

Mather Campground for a great experience in the openness of the Grand Canyon and getting up close and personal with its inhabitants.

The Mules that carry supplies down Bright Angel Trail three days every week for forcing us to give our legs a break coming back up the trail.

Lake Powell Campground for providing us with a toasty bathroom and a nice warm shower while camping in 34 degree weather.

Montana Pritchard for the opportunity to go to Arizona to photograph such a fun PGA event and vacation time to stay and see the great places we get to go work in.

All of the great eats we had a long the way: Roka Akor, Local Bistro, North, Lumberyard Brewing Co, Fiesta Mexicana, Yippee-Ei-O! Steakhouse and Sonic because we finally gave in to those tot cravings after two and half days of trails and driving.

Delta for taking the time on Thanksgiving Eve to change my upgraded first class ticket back to a regular ole seat in the back so I can sit with my partner on our flight back to West Palm Beach.

Most importantly, the Arizona State Parks and National Parks for “opening your doors” to us and teaching people about the amazing places in our country. For the long hours in all working conditions, for maintaining the trails and all of the other unimaginable things you do!

To Shane for putting up with my "Let's stop here and take a picture!" and for being the assistant road captain, its not easy folks. <3

…..and to my girl, Sally, for watching my two fluff muffins while we were away :)
